INAFA Mission Statement

 The perceived mission of the International Native American Flute Association is to:
  • encourage the primary continuation of the traditional and contemporary Native American flute.

  • identify, collect, restore, maintain, preserve, and classify historical and contemporary Native American flutes in cooperation with Kent State University's Ethnomusicology Department, or in collaboration with similar institutions.

  • encourage the protection of the intellectual property rights of others within the provenance of music and musical instruments.

  • cooperate and coordinate with individuals, associations, flute circles, and other organizations engaged in similar activities that contributes to the musical life and culture of all humankind.

  • encourage regional and national projects by INAFA through high quality exhibitions, educational outreach programs, specific performances and programs, scholarly research and publication efforts, and other compatible ventures.

  • promote fellowship in good faith among the membership of INAFA whose goals and objectives include encouraging an inclusive approach to the cultural life of the Americas and to the world community.

    The Mission Statement is in process of becoming revised for 2007 and we are not in the position to consider any other requests or suggested inclusions until the process or revision is completed by the INAFA Board.
